I am a non-believer. I pretty much always have been, although there has been strong influences towards becoming a believer if nothing else. My mother was married to a priest within Swedish church for a number of years, and even if I don’t think he minded too much I never believed, I am sure my mother wanted me to – out of respect for him.

The reasons why I never believed has varied over the years. At first, I was very influenced by a series of books I read as a young teenager. It was all about the supernatural, magic and sex with different mythological creatures, and I was so drawn to it. I convinced myself that being inside a church gave me headaches. Later, my non-belief came from spite for my mother, mainly. Later because I didn’t like the mentality within the church. Even later again, because I didn’t believe in a higher power, period.

Now, I just don’t believe. At least not in God, as described. I have some sort of belief, I think, but it is more based on a belief in oneself, that one is one’s own god.

But whatever I believe or don’t believe doesn’t take away the fact that I find churches very charming. Today, I brought Ella and went looking for that old ruin of a church I wrote of yesterday. Unfortunately, they are rebuilding the roads in that exact direction, so I didn’t find it – today. Instead, we stopped at this cute little church (Säby). There were few older ladies there, preparing for the hours the church is opened during summer. One of them was very helpful and told me that this church was built in the 14th century, but that there had most likely been another church there before, built in the 12th century.

The breathe of history is strong in places like this. I like it.

Like yesterday, it was extremely hot, so we didn’t stay long. I didn’t get too many exposures, hence the small selection here.

But – enjoy it, nonetheless! 🙂
